Do you service landmarked Boerum Hill rowhouses?

Yes — we work in the Boerum Hill Historic District regularly. We handle condenser placement, line set routing, and LPC coordination as part of the job.

How fast can you get to Boerum Hill for an AC repair?

Most days, same-day if you call before noon. Boerum Hill is adjacent to Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens, two of our most active service areas — we're usually nearby. During summer heatwaves, call early.

What's the best cooling option for a Boerum Hill brownstone without ductwork?

Ductless mini-split systems — Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, or Daikin. Slim wall heads work in narrow 19th-century rooms, and a modern cold-climate mini-split heats and cools so you get rid of window units and old radiators at the same time.

Can you handle a hot-water boiler in a Boerum Hill brownstone alongside the AC?

Yes — we service hot-water (hydronic) boilers and can work on both the heating and cooling side in the same visit. See our boiler repair page for details on what we cover.

Do you do heat pump installation in Boerum Hill?

Yes. NYSERDA Clean Heat rebates may apply to qualifying cold-climate systems — check nyserda.ny.gov for current eligibility. Ben visits and sizes the system to your building.

Boerum Hill HVAC Context

What we see in Boerum Hill buildings

Boerum Hill is a small, dense neighborhood with a remarkably consistent housing stock — Greek Revival and Italianate rowhouses built between the 1840s and 1880s along Pacific Street, Dean Street, Bergen Street, and the surrounding cross streets, most of it inside the Boerum Hill Historic District. These are narrow 18- to 20-foot brownstones and brick rowhouses, typically 3–4 stories, with the full range of renovation states: fully gut-renovated with new mechanicals, partially updated with one new mini-split head per floor, or still running an original steam or hot-water system with window units filling the gaps. The neighborhood sits between Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, and Downtown Brooklyn — we're in and out of this area constantly. Reference points we work around: Atlantic Avenue, Barclays Center (a 10-minute walk), Smith Street, and the 2/3/4/5 at Borough Hall.

Common Calls

AC problems we see most often in Boerum Hill

Narrow Boerum Hill rowhouse with a tight mechanical room

18-foot-wide rowhouses don't leave much room. We know how to work in them — compact equipment, creative line set routing, and no unnecessary damage to original finishes.

One mini-split head down in a multi-zone system

Common on Mitsubishi and Fujitsu retrofits throughout the neighborhood. We diagnose at the head and the outdoor unit before recommending a repair.

Top-floor bedroom that's 10 degrees hotter than the parlor

Heat-soaked attic space is the most common complaint in 4-story Boerum Hill brownstones. We measure static pressure and airflow before telling you what it'll actually take to fix it.

Old steam or hot-water system with window units filling the gaps

We help Boerum Hill owners transition from window units and old radiator systems to ductless heat pumps — one zone at a time or the whole building at once.
