Goodman Furnace Error Codes — What the Flashes Mean

Goodman furnaces report faults with a red LED that flashes in a repeating count — visible through the little window in the blower door. Brooklyn is full of Goodman and Amana equipment, so we read these codes every week. Here's the plain-English version.

Common Goodman blink codes

Count the flashes between pauses on the red LED. Goodman and Amana are the same family, so these apply to both. The legend sticker inside your blower door is the authority for your exact model.

    Find the LED and count the flashes

    Look through the small plastic window in the lower furnace door — you'll see a red LED. Count the flashes between pauses; that count is the code. The legend sticker on the inside of the door lists your model's exact table.

    • Snap a photo of the legend sticker inside the door
    • Note what the furnace does — clicks, hums, starts then stops

    One safe reset — once only

    Flip the furnace's power switch (looks like a light switch on or near the unit) off for 60 seconds, then back on. A 1-flash ignition lockout will retry after a reset. If it locks out again, stop — the underlying cause needs a tech.

    Never bypass a safety switch

    Every one of these codes is a safety circuit doing its job. Jumping a pressure switch or limit switch to force heat is how carbon monoxide gets into living space. Don't do it, and don't let anyone else do it.

    The two things worth checking yourself

    A clogged filter causes 4-flash overheating trips, and a blocked outside vent causes 3-flash pressure faults. Both take two minutes to look at and cost nothing.
