Daikin heating calls in Brooklyn split into two very different jobs. On the residential side, Aurora wall mounts are Daikin's cold-climate line, rated to keep heating down to around -13°F, while standard Daikin ductless models lose output once it is in the teens. On an Aurora or other single-zone Daikin, the honest winter faults are a short list. A slow refrigerant leak shows up in heating season first, because the system has less margin: the outdoor coil ices heavily, heat output fades, and Daikin's U0 low-refrigerant code eventually appears. A stuck electronic expansion valve leaves the coil starved and the head blowing lukewarm air. A failed thermistor — Daikin logs sensor faults on the indoor and outdoor boards separately — makes the unit misjudge coil temperature and either refuse to ramp up or trip on an A5 freeze-protection code. And the reversing valve, or its coil, can fail so the system quietly stays in cooling no matter what the remote says. Before any of that, we confirm the remote is in HEAT rather than AUTO or DRY, and that the unit is not just sitting in defrost, which Daikin signals with a slow blink on the operation indicator.

VRV is where Daikin is genuinely different. A heat-recovery VRV with branch selector boxes can heat one zone while another cools; a cold zone there is usually a BS-box port, a communication fault on that circuit, or the zone's own expansion valve. A heat-pump VRV without BS boxes runs the whole system in one mode chosen by the master indoor unit — if the master is still calling for cooling in November, every other zone waits and the remotes show a changeover message. That is a setting, not a repair, and we have seen it billed as a compressor.
