Daikin Troubleshooting
Daikin Mini Split Error Codes — What They Mean
Daikin systems show a letter-number code on the remote or wall controller when something trips. Some codes are minor sensor faults; a few mean shut it down now. Here's the plain-English version of the codes we see most in Brooklyn.
Anatomy of the system
Numbered parts below match the cost table further down — so you can see exactly where the failure usually sits.
Common Daikin error codes
These apply to residential Daikin ductless (Aurora, Quaternity, multi-split). Daikin VRV systems for buildings use an extended code set — call for those.
| Code | What it usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A1 | Indoor unit circuit board fault | Call — board-level diagnosis. |
| A3 | Drain level fault — condensate backing up | Switch the unit off to stop leak risk, then call. |
| A5 | Freeze protection or high-pressure coil control | Check the filter first. If clean and it returns, call. |
| A6 | Indoor fan motor fault | Call — fan motor or board. |
| C4 / C9 | Coil or air temperature sensor fault | Call — usually a quick sensor swap. |
| E5 | Compressor overload | Shut the system down and call. |
| E7 | Outdoor fan motor fault | Call — outdoor unit repair. |
| F3 | Discharge pipe temperature too high | Shut the system down and call. |
| H6 | Compressor position sensor — system often won't start | Call — needs on-site diagnosis. |
| L5 | Compressor overcurrent / possible short | Shut the system down and call. |
| U0 | Refrigerant shortage detected — you likely have a leak | Call — leak search plus repair, not just a top-off. |
| U2 | Supply voltage problem | Check the breaker. If the breaker's fine, call. |
| U4 | Indoor and outdoor units can't communicate | One breaker reset (60 seconds). If it returns, call. |

Signs and symptoms
What to notice before calling a technician. The red callouts mean stop and call us immediately.
- 1
Read the code off the remote or controller
On most Daikin remotes the code shows directly on screen when the fault is active. On some models, holding the CANCEL button steps through stored codes — the unit beeps continuously when the display reaches the actual fault. Write down what you find.
What to notice
- Note the exact letter-number code on the display
- Note whether the fault came with a noise, smell, or leak
- Check if other heads on the same system still run

- 2
One safe reset — once only
Turn the system off, flip its breaker for 60 seconds, and restart. Communication faults (U4) and voltage blips sometimes clear for good. If the code returns, the fault is real.
Never keep restarting E5, F3, or L5
Those are compressor-protection codes. Forcing restarts can kill the compressor — the single most expensive part in the system. One reset, then call. - 3
Check filter and airflow
A5 freeze-protection trips are very often a dirty filter or a coil that's overdue for a deep clean. Slide the filters out and look before assuming the worst.
What to notice
- Rinse or replace dusty filters
- Make sure the outdoor unit isn't blocked by leaves, snow, or stored items

Text us the code
Send the code and a photo to (347) 997-3360 with your address. We'll tell you what it means, whether it's urgent, and what the visit will involve — before you commit to anything.
What this usually costs in Brooklyn
When a technician diagnoses the issue, here's the typical cost range for the repair. The exact number depends on parts, access, and how long it's been failing.
| Issue | Likely cause | Typical range |
|---|---|---|
| Diagnostic visit | Pull fault history, confirm the code | $125 – $225 |
| Sensor / thermistor replacement | C4, C9 and similar sensor codes | $175 – $375 |
| Drain service | A3 — condensate backing up | $150 – $350 |
| Communication wiring / board repair | U4 comm faults | $250 – $700 |
| Refrigerant leak search & repair | U0 refrigerant shortage | $275 – $950 |
| Outdoor fan motor replacement | E7 outdoor fan fault | $350 – $750 |
| Indoor or outdoor PCB replacement | A1 and board-level faults | $350 – $850 |

Common Questions
What to do next
Call (347) 997-3360 or book a diagnostic. Tell us what you observed — the sounds, the symptoms, when it started — and we'll know exactly what to check.
Do not attempt any repairs yourself. Gas, electrical, and refrigerant work requires a licensed technician.
