Can I add refrigerant to my AC myself?

Is it worth fixing an AC over 12 years old?

Accepted Answer

Depends on the failure. Capacitor or fan motor — fix it. Compressor or evaporator coil on an R-22 system — usually replace. We give you the math both ways.

What if my AC is leaking water onto the floor or ceiling?

Usually one of three things — a clogged condensate drain line backing up into the pan, a frozen evaporator coil thawing all at once, or an indoor unit that was pitched wrong on install. We clear the line, find the freeze cause (low refrigerant, dirty filter, weak blower), and check the pitch.
