Question 1

How much does mini-split installation cost in Brooklyn?

Accepted Answer

A single-zone ductless mini-split (one indoor head, one outdoor unit) typically runs $4,500–$8,500 installed in Brooklyn. Multi-zone systems cost more: 2-zone runs $7,500–$12,500; 3-zone $10,000–$16,000; 4-zone $13,000–$19,000. Cold-climate heat pump models (Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat, Fujitsu Halcyon) run $500–$1,500 more.

Question 2

What affects the cost of mini-split installation in Brooklyn?

Accepted Answer

The main factors are: number of zones (indoor heads), system brand and model, line set length and routing complexity, electrical work required (new circuit or panel upgrade), and building access (rooftop condensers, co-op board requirements, landmarked exterior restrictions). Brooklyn brownstones often have longer line set runs and more complex routing than suburban homes, which affects labor cost.

Question 3

Are there NYSERDA rebates for mini-split installation in Brooklyn?

Accepted Answer

NYSERDA's Clean Heat program offers rebates on qualifying cold-climate mini-split systems. To qualify, the system must be a cold-climate heat pump model (not cooling-only). Check nyserda.ny.gov for current amounts and how to apply.

Question 4

Do I need an electrician for mini-split installation?

Accepted Answer

Usually yes — most mini-split outdoor units require a dedicated 240V circuit. If your panel has capacity, the circuit addition is straightforward and included in our installation quote. If you need a panel upgrade, that's separate electrical work. We assess this at the site visit and flag it upfront.

Question 5

How long does mini-split installation take in Brooklyn?

Accepted Answer

Single-zone: 4–6 hours. Two-zone: 6–8 hours (usually one day). Three or four zones: 1–2 days depending on building layout and line set routing. We work around your schedule and leave the space clean.

Question 6

Is mini-split installation worth it in a Brooklyn apartment?

Accepted Answer

For pre-war buildings without ductwork, ductless is almost always the best path. You get precise zone control, better efficiency than window units, no water leaking onto street-level pedestrians, and if you choose a heat pump model, you're replacing your heating and cooling in one system. The upfront cost is higher than window units but the operating cost and comfort difference is significant.

Question 7

Mitsubishi vs. Fujitsu vs. Daikin — which brand costs more?

Accepted Answer

All three are in a similar price range for equipment. Mitsubishi tends to run slightly higher at the high end. Fujitsu's Halcyon line is very competitive. Daikin AURORA is slightly lower on equipment cost for comparable capacity. Labor is the same across brands. We recommend based on application and building layout, not brand preference.
