AC Leak Detection Brooklyn

We Find Leaks Other Techs Miss.

Most HVAC companies top off refrigerant and call it a day. We don't. Brownstone runs nitrogen pressure tests and electronic detection to pinpoint exactly where your system is losing refrigerant — then we fix it right so it doesn't come back.

Every Leak Type. One Call.

We test and repair all four failure points where residential and multi-unit HVAC systems lose refrigerant in Brooklyn buildings.

Most Common

Refrigerant Line Leaks

Refrigerant leaks from line set connections, schrader valves, or brazed joints are the most common cause of a system that cools for a while then stops. We pressurize the system with nitrogen and isolate each section to find the exact point of loss — not just top it off and hope.

High Failure Rate in Old Buildings

Evaporator Coil Leaks

Coil corrosion is common in NYC apartments — formicary corrosion from off-gassing building materials eats through copper over time. A coil leak usually shows up as ice formation or progressive loss of cooling. We diagnose and replace coils, not just patch them.

Line Set & Piping

Line Set & Copper Piping

Long runs through walls, floors, and ceilings in Brooklyn brownstones and walk-ups create multiple potential leak points. We pressure-isolate each section to identify exactly where the break is before opening anything up — saving you time and unnecessary wall damage.

Fittings & Connections

Fittings, Valves & Connections

Flare fittings, service valves, and field connections vibrate loose over time. In multi-zone mini split systems — Daikin, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu — branch box connections are a frequent culprit. We check every port with manifold gauges and electronic detectors.

How We Find the Leak

A systematic process — not guesswork. Every step is documented so you know exactly what we found and where.

Step 01

System Pressure Check

We recover refrigerant and pressurize the system with nitrogen to operating pressure. This immediately tells us if a leak is present and roughly how severe.

Step 02

Section Isolation

We isolate the system into sections — indoor coil, line set, outdoor unit, branch boxes — and monitor pressure drop in each to pinpoint which zone is losing pressure.

Step 03

Electronic Detection

Once we've narrowed the section, we use an electronic refrigerant leak detector to find the exact fitting, weld point, or coil location. No guessing.

Step 04

Fix & Recharge

We repair the leak — rebraze, replace the fitting, or swap the coil — then pressure-test again to confirm it holds before recharging with refrigerant.

Why Brooklyn Homeowners Call Us First

Most HVAC companies will add refrigerant without finding the leak. That's a band-aid. You'll lose it again in weeks or months, pay again, and still have the same problem. We find it once and fix it for good.

Common Questions

  • How do I know if my AC has a refrigerant leak?

The most common signs are: system cools for a while then stops, ice forming on the indoor unit or line set, hissing sound near the outdoor unit, or the system running constantly without reaching temperature. If you're regularly topping off refrigerant, you have a leak.

  • Can't you just add more refrigerant?

We can, but we won't without finding the leak first. Adding refrigerant to a leaking system is illegal under EPA Section 608 for systems over 5 lbs, and it's a waste of your money. The refrigerant will leak out again — we find the source and fix it.

  • What is a nitrogen pressure test?

We pressurize your refrigerant circuit with dry nitrogen (an inert gas, safe and non-flammable) to well above normal operating pressure. If the system holds pressure, there's no leak. If it drops, we isolate section by section to find exactly where. It's the most reliable leak detection method available.

  • How much does AC leak detection cost in Brooklyn?

We quote flat-rate upfront before any work starts — no surprise bills after. The diagnostic fee covers pressure testing and electronic detection. If we find and repair the leak in the same visit, the diagnostic is rolled into the repair cost. Call or text for current pricing.

  • Do you work on mini split systems?

Yes — multi-zone mini splits are one of the most common systems we test. Daikin, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, LG. Branch box connections and flare fittings are high-failure points on mini splits, and we check every one.

What Brooklyn Customers Say About Our AC Repair

4.9 stars from 57+ verified reviews across Google, Yelp, Thumbtack, and HomeAdvisor

My AC system stopped working just as a heat wave started. Ben picked up the phone when I called, gave me a realistic assessment of his availability, arrived when he said he would, was straightforward about the cost — and then did a tremendous job.

I called Brownstone Heating for a second opinion after my heat stopped working during deep freeze temperatures. The first company wanted to charge a high price to dismantle and clean my entire system. Ben offered a much better option — for the same price, he installed a brand new furnace and motor.
